How adults learn best online
Spacing, retrieval and feedback make online learning stick. They also shaped how our courses are built.
By Dr. Elise Morel5 min readOnline learning is often blamed for low completion rates. In practice, many courses are simply designed against the way memory works. Decades of research in learning science point to a few principles that make a large difference.
Space it out
Short sessions spread over several days lead to better long-term retention than one long session. That is why our lessons are compact and unlock step by step.
Practise remembering
Retrieving information, for example through a quiz, strengthens memory more than rereading notes. Our quizzes are designed as learning tools, with an explanation for every answer, not only as tests.
Get feedback from a person
Applied assignments reviewed by an instructor help learners connect ideas to their own work and correct misunderstandings early. Feedback is most useful when it is specific, timely and focused on the next step.
Good online learning is not about more content. It is about the right amount, in the right order, with the right kind of practice.
